Feeling very buoyed by today’s announcement that North of North has been nominated for a 2026 Film Independent Spirit Award for Best New Scripted Series!

I’ve talked a bit about my work on North of North, and am so incredibly grateful for this nomination as part of the producer team. (Working on the show was a real gift, especially as I was deep in the trenches on it when my father became ill and passed away.)

But this series is something that is way bigger than me! North of North is a heartfelt and f**king hilarious story about a community, and one that has been long-deserving of better representation. So full credit to Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril and the Northwood team for bringing it to life.

At a time when the CRTC has begun to implement rules that minimize the importance of Canadian writers on Canadian projects, let NoN be a testament to what Canadians can do when we’re given the platform and support to tell good stories!
